Store display case coming from the estate of a former Tiffany & Co. Employee in New York City.
Believe it dates to the 1980s or 90s. This would have been used in a retail stores as a stand alone display.
NOTE: Silver basket in the display is not included, used to show scale. Is engraved into the steel on two sides of the glass case. Glass is marked "HGP / Architectural Glass / Safety Tempered" The numbers "12 86" which could be a date, possibly December, 1986 are also included on each pane of glass. High quality custom made, featuring a steel case with mahogany veneered base. The glass case features a piece of stained wood that is unscrewed to reveal a large central screw that can be removed to allow the top potion to be separated from the lower cabinet. The top portion can be used alone as a counter top display. The removable piece of wood can be wrapped in velvet for a more dramatic display. In the estate the former owner was using it as a safe for jewelry in a closet. There was no key, so the locks were forced open.I replaced the lock on the glass case, which works perfectly. The lower case will need a new replacement lock to work.
There is evidence of the wood being split to get the lock open (pictured). The door to the cabinet had a slight warp that causes it to not be fully flush along the lower portion. If locking is not necessary, a cabinet magnet could easily be added to keep the door closed. Cabinet shows normal amounts of wear from use with scuffs to the wood and at base. Most wear is around the areas used to open the doors.
Must be picked up from New York City, we recommend Uship. If using a Uship shipper, please mention this piece can be sent in two pieces for ease of transport. Measures: 55.5"H x 19"W x 19D. Interior of glass portion: 17.5"H x 15"W x 15D Note: Slight amount of space can be added to height if wood cap piece is removed. Great display item in the home for a Tiffany collector, definitely draws attention to any piece.
