Antique Unique Tabletop Store Display W/Brass Light Fixture & Hobnail Globe. This is a very unique piece.
The total height including the light is approximately 38. Measuring just the display section without the light is 28" x 16" wide and deep approximately. There are 6 individual "arms" measuring 22" tall x 3" in diameter. The individual arms all turn 360?
There are 9 hooks on each arm that measures 2¼. There is a brass nut on the top and bottom of each arm that holds it to the body. There is 6 between each arm. The light fixture on the top is brass and it is tarnished and would need to be polished. The ornate fixture measures 4" tall x 4" across at the widest point with a fitter of 3¼.
The fixture has three screws that tighten and hold the globe in place. The globe is a lovely milk glass with the traditional hobnail design that is 5" tall x 6" across at the widest point with a 3¼ fitter. There is a 5-leg metal base that has MELCO WIRE embossed on the legs of the base. I don't know if that is just the brand of the base or if it held MELCO WIRE Products at the time.
Each arm on the bottom base has a felt pad to protect the tabletop. The wire runs from the fixture down the hollow metal tube in the center and down through the base.
The cord does not have a plug as it was hard-wired to the outlet and we took it as it was. It has a long cord on it that they had run under a rubber mat to a nearby outlet. We wrapped the cord that had been run across the floor and wrapped it around the base and pulled it from the outlet. It will need to be rewired to comply with today's safety standards.
There is a push button on the base that appears to be an on/off switch for the light. The wood is dusty and dry. I do not know what type it is. It will need to be cleaned with soap and water and then restained or waxed. The metal arms could use a wire brush just to clean off 50+ years of dust.
It came from a long-ago closed business that had sat undisturbed and shut up for the last 54 years that we know of. It was one of those stores long before Walmart and Dollar General. It had a little bit of everything. This would be a stunning piece with a bit of work. If you have a boutique this could easily hold any of your hanging items such as wax melts or jewelry. Set it on its own or put it on your counter next to your register. The light on top just adds to the ambiance of any boutique or antique store where this piece would fit in beautifully.
