Antique Meredith & Drew Ltd Counter Top Advertising Barrel Biscuit Jar RARE FIND. Stands 8 1/2" (including lid), 8" widest point. Beautiful swirling old glass with a pale yellow hue in the light, as seen in the pictures. The jar is etched MEREDITH and DREW Limd. Chips to the top rim (pictures 6,12) Original aluminum lid.There are some small dings to the lid (picture). In 1891Frederick Meredith and Lear Drew merged their interest to form Meredith & Drew, which became one of the largest biscuit manufactures in Britain. The company received its first Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1894.
The Meredith & Drew factory at Shadwell was extended in 1896. M & D continued to grow and expand their operations. It merged with Wright & Sone of Shadwell. The glass dome has a very unusual sealed stamp embossed "Merediths cakes" to the shoulder with a raspberry applied rosette knop acting as a air hole.Pottery stand is in good overall condition. The glass dome fits snuggly on the rim. My listings are mostly all used, vintage or antique condition.
