Grand Junction's Cabaret Dinner Theatre closed for the second and, by all indications, final time after Friday's performance of Chicago. "The Cabaret is pretty much defunct, " executive producer Kirk McConnell told the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, citing a lack of funds and food.

The closing of the Cabaret, which was located at 701 Main St. In downtown Grand Junction, leaves one of the state's largest cities without any professional theater. Also closed was its Spotlight Lounge, a bar and live music venue. The playhouse, which employed 100 people, was the state's second-largest dinner theater and sixth-largest theater overall. The Cabaret has been serving western Colorado since 1999. Donlan obtained a court order allowing her to evict The Cabaret and the Spotlight. The State Department of Revenue closed the theater on Feb. McConnell sought donations from the community and was able to reopen the businesses after a weekend closure. The theater had found itself in a major financial hole due in part to a tumultuous fiscal 2007 and sluggish ticket sales in January 2008.

Through major corporate restructuring in 2007, Cabaret reduced its overhead substantially.
